Living Lapland

It was a long time that I haven't been stoked like I'm now. Living in Finland is like a dream coming true, while taking my flight to Helsinki I was really stoked and smiling to everyone, watching through the plane window and thinking about how far I'm going from home, crossing maybe lands where I've never been yet. Helsinki is a great city, modern buildings, capital of design, you have whatever you need, everything works great. But for me Finland is something different, I spent a lot of time in my life watching documentaries about Finland and nordic countries, reading articles and most of all checking photos. My view of Finland is something wild, a place where you can get lost in the middle of nature, in the middle of nowhere. Small towns with their wooden houses where local people live, those locals ready to tell you their story, recount you about their culture. Those incontaminated lands that are something rare nowadays, able to stop you for a moment, catch your attention, let you breathe fresh air, show you what mother nature gave us. That's the Finland I want to discover.
Lapland, that's a simple word which has a lots of meanings for me. Since I was younger I always dreamed about going up north, doing my hiking trip, discovering the beauties of that planet. There's nothing that I could wish more than watching northern lights, this amazing phenomenon that everyone should see in its life. Furthermore, finally I booked my trip to Lapland and I'm going to explore Korvala and its surroundings even though Im not a real fan of organized trips as they are usually too holiday-style. The main point of the trip is to discover Lappish way of life, local culture, ski around the city, meet huskies and reindeers of the local farms and to watch northern lights. It's going to be something epic, I can feel it.

The Land of Snow, Reindeers and Riisipirakka

Dreams always become true. My dream started two months ago, while moving to Finland for an erasmus program as an exchange student. This is the land of love, snow, happiness and good vibes. It really reminds me my hometown in Poland, modern buildings, parks everywhere, in the middle of nature two steps outside the downtown.

A lot of things happened during my staying here. Living here as a student is awesome, so easy to meet new people, erasmus students and finnish people too. The city is full of attractions for everyone, amazing areas there to go for a walk, nice buildings whose admire architecture, good parties of all kinds to attend. One of the first events was the Burton 13 movie premiere, at the new Burton Store in Helsinki where Mikkel Bang has come.

Living in a new city and having a new apartment means a lot of visits from friends all around the world, and why not.. Couch Surfing aswell! First guest was my friend Alice from Trento, who's having her erasmus in Turku now, and then two russian friends! Fresh salmon is a must in Finland, there's no better way to taste it if not going to the Market Square at the South Harbour of Helsinki on a sunny day, served with delicious cranberry souce with potateos and vegetables.

There's always something to do in Helsinki, 24hours per day. Sibeliuspuisto is the park where it's possible to see the Sibelius monument, which is known everywhere around the world. That's a very nice place where to take a walk, close to the seaside with an enjoyable atmosphere during sunny days and sunset time.

I love getting lost in the woods, that's why I love that place. Here you can find parks and little woods everywhere, in the surroundings of the city. I felt in love with Seurasaari with its beautiful wooden cottages and old style houses, you can reach it only by walking and it looks like an old agen village. I can't describe the feelings I have while crossing that places, nature is incredible and there are so many beauties to discover.
Espoo with its Nuuksio National Park made my day, I've been there once.. and what you can see there in autumn time is rad, yellow and red colours everywhere! Nice tracks to cross and breathtaking landscapes of lakes and forest. I'd like to go there again to pick mushrooms or have another great bbq in the wood, it should also be nice go camping there for few days.. maybe in summer time.

Winter is coming and the season of snowboard premiere has already started! First one was, as I said before, Burton 13 movie premiere. Following, Mellow Crew night with their short movie, good vibes, lots of people and nice afterparty, support little crews! A great surprise was the Videograss premiere that I was waiting for ages! Petrus kindly organised the premiere at Adams in Helsinki, the only thing I can say about The Dark Side.. NONSENSE! Really, it was so sick as I expected.

Talking about winter, my first thought is snowboarding! Im really stoked about being here and Im looking forward to go snowboarding again.. as I spent last summer in Rome and I missed L2A. Well, today we had the first snow in Helsinki and that's a great news! Serena Ski is already pushing fake snow on the slopes, now we hope the temperature remains low so that they can open very soon. Next weekend BoardExpo aka positive vibes in the city aka perfect days, nice contests and great afterparties!

Stay tuned!

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don't take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
Hes the only one for me, jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
Jolene, jolene

World Cup Skateboarding 2012

World Cup Skateboarding is one of the coolest events about extreme sports that take place in Rome every year. Skaters from all around the world and of different ages came to Ostia for a 3-day event, from 15th to 17th june, to rock the "The Spot Skatepark" and the vert ramp located on the promenade, while landing sick tricks and making people freak out!

After the vert finals, where Andy McDonald took 1st place and the youngster Jono Schwan arrived 3rd landing rad McTwist and clean tricks, Juergen Horrwarth and Renton Millar started to perform double tricks while the crowd was hardly screaming!

What about the girls.. they rocked the spot! Leticia Bufoni ride even better than some guys, she got the 1st place doing a bs boardslide on a huge rail.. the first lady riding it at The Spot Skatepark! She's full of energy and ready to get new challenges, she never stops trying and that's a great example for all the chicks whom want to push themselves.

Dies slowly

Dies slowly he who transforms himself in slave of habit, repeating every day the same itineraries, who does not change brand, does not risk to wear a new color and doesn't talk to whom doesn't know.

Dies slowly he who makes of television his guru.

Dies slowly he who avoids a passion, who prefers black to white and the dots on the "i" to a whirlpool of emotions, just those ones that recover the gleam from the eyes, smiles from the yawns, hearts from the stumbling and feelings.

Dies slowly he who does not overthrow the table when is unhappy at work, who does not risk the certain for the uncertain to go toward that dream that is keeping him awake. Who does not allow, at least one time in life, to flee from sensate advises.

Dies slowly he who does not travel, does not read, does not listen to music, who does not find grace in himself.

Dies slowly he who destroys his self love, who does not accept somebody's help.

Dies slowly he who passes his days complaining of his bad luck or the incessant rain.

Dies slowly he who abandons a project before starting it, who does not ask over a subject that does not know or who does not answer when being asked about something he knows.

Dies slowly he who does not share his emotions, joys and sadness, who does not trust, who does not even try.

Dies slowly he who does not relive his memories and continues getting emotional as if living them at that moment.

Dies slowly he who does not intent excelling, who does not learn from the stones of the road of life, who does not love and let somebody love. Let's avoid death in soft quotes, remembering always that to be alive demands an effort much bigger that the simple fact of breathing.

Smile for Life

Sunday morning.
Waking up at 9, drinking a cup of green tea and tasting a cake that I made yesterday.
The sunshine coming through my window is making me feel like Im on the top of the world.
Why should people's behaviour make me feel rough?
I wanna be self-dependent, no emotional involvement anymore.
I'd like to be careless and young, free as the birds that fly with weightless souls.
No chance to be happy only by ourselves, life is all about sharing.
We are not individuals, people live in groups, teams, tribes.
We could be happy by ourselves, making our life as great as possible.
But we cannot avoid connection with people.
We'll always be depending on people we interact with.
All you have to do, if somebody gives you negative emotions, is to let him go.
Today, sunday morning, sunny day.
I'm going to smile for life, to smile for the people I love, to smile for the life that I'm building.
Today I'll start to care less about people that don't deserve me.

Now you're just somebody that I used to know.

Tales from Poland

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Anna, she was born in the land which is known now as Poland in the little town of Legnica. At the age of 4 she moved to Italy, where she's still living with her parents on the seaside close to the capital city.
Well, that little girl now is 21 and she's a globetrotter who once a year come back to her motherland for Xmas time.
I've been in Poland for almost 3 weeks after a great week, actually 10 days because of the car at the mechanichian (yeah, it happened), of snowboarding on Dolomiti Alps with my parents and some Polish friends. As usual, I spent Xmas time at my aunt's place with my cousins and my grandma and I really enjoyed it because it happens only once a year when your family meet altogether and there's something magic in it. The only thing that missed was snow, this year was cruel as of snowflakes and everywhere people was waiting for some fresh powder that didn't arrive. All in all it was a great Xmas.
I could say that when Im in Poland I really love going to the cinema and I broke my previous record going 6 times to the cinema during 3weeks of my staying (it was kinda new challenge or maybe simply because I like the cinema) and I also had 2 films at the same day, it was freaky!
Im proud to announce that we have an indoor skatepark in Wroclaw, named Zajezdnia Skatepark, so I was able to sk8boarding in winter too with my polish rider friend Wojtek, we were there twice.
I planned my New Year's Eve two days before that, at last minute I chose the party at the dormitory of the University of Economy where each year students who live there organize a party in the corridors (there are 10 floors) and some of them make parties in the elevators too, it's so funny! At midnight everybody go to the hill close to the building where it's possible to see fireworks from all parts of the city, such an amazing shimmering sky.
Weather wasn't so good at all everyday was cloudy with a gray sky and no sun, but sometimes it was sunny too. It snowed twice: the day in which I arrived to Poland and the one that I left. Luckily, I've been snowboarding on new year, only once, and riding some fresh powder between trees was amazing. A snowpark probably could transform that day in a perfect one but it was ok anyway.
All in all, it was a good Polish trip. I like to go there because I can meet my family and some of friends who I see only once a year and that's a little bit sad. But on the other hand, meeting them only sometimes makes me want to see them and they never make me bored. It's like having double home, a half of my life in Poland and the other half in Italy.
